APSARA Authority and Siem Reap Provincial Authorities Promote Cooperation for the Protection and Sustainable Development of Angkor

SIEM REAP: More than 60 participating APSARA National Authority officials, together with local authorities from the Siem Reap Municipality, Prasat Bakong, Puok, Banteay Srei, and Angkor Thom districts attended the seminar on Land Management in zone 1 and 2 of the Angkor site on Friday, 11 March.

This seminar was held at the Department of Public Order of the APSARA National Authority, to disseminate information on the laws and regulations related to land management and use in zone 1 and 2 of the Angkor site.

The Deputy Director-General of APSARA National Authority, Long Kosal, chaired the seminar and said during his opening remarks that zone 1 and 2 of the Angkor site are the most important areas to be protected at all times. He added that in each election, some citizens take the opportunity to conduct illegal constructions in the protected areas of Angkor.

He said, "Regarding the problem of encroachment on the protected areas of Angkor site, both the APSARA National Authority and the local authorities of the villages, communes, districts, and province of Siem Reap, must find a solution together to avoid any problems that may affect the outstanding universal value of the Angkor site."

The seminar was also attended by H.E Son Socheat, Lok Chumteav Chea Sok Nuon, Suong Sophea (Lawyer for APSARA National Authority), and keynote speakers who presented key legal documents and discussed the roles and responsibilities of relevant parties to ensure work efficiency and adherence to the principles of law.
